Google, the Internet’s most commonly used search engine, announced a fundamental shift to search, ‘Google Instant Search’ the speed and ease with one can find information. Updated last week, Google Instant Search automatically refines your search without actually hitting the button to produce concrete results. Users will see search results popping up on their computer screens, and changing with each character typed.
Google says there are three benefits to using Google Instant Search
No Long Tail Results: Google automatically displays relevant search results as you type, with no need to hit enter or click the search button. So, you can quickly interact and click through to the content you need. If you’re typing away and see something that answers your question, you’ll probably stop typing your query and go click on it.
Future Direction of Search: The new search approach will save users 2 to 5 seconds per results. It also makes search much more fun, fluid and interactive.
Smarter Predictions: One of the key technologies in Google Instant is smarter predictions. Even, we do not know exactly what we are looking for; predictions help guide our search. The top prediction is shown in grey text directly in the search box, so you can stop typing and look down and find what you are looking for.
As, a result many users will become smart and think differently, and how they approach formulating search queries may gradually change.
Google Instant is localized
Google Instant Search is steering the limits of technology to help you get the better search results. The predictions and search results will change on where Google believes you are located. In my case, if I Begin to search for “schools”, Google recognized that I’m based in Newyork state. The anticipated queries are all state and region focused.
This concept will gain momentum with how Google Instant search works over time. As a result, while a user is typing in a generic query they will end up completing it as a local query, and therefore see locally focused ads.
Will Google Instant Kill SEO strategy or Impact Rankings?
In my opinion, Google Instant will change how many people see and click on your site as it could be persuading to searchers to enter an entirely different keyword than what they had actually set out to search for. No doubt, Google revolutionary search is bringing the paid and universal search listings as high as possible, but all together pushing the SEO results down. So one needs to plan out their SEO strategy keeping in mind:
Your page titles should be even more compelling than before.
- You need to bring the searcher to your listing, and also you have to get them to commit to the search query. That is going to take a lot of your responsibility on your part.
- Having a close look at what long tail keywords Google Instant suggests.
- Make sure you have a page ranked for all the important variations
Google Instant changes the way users can interact with search, it has herald a significant change in how we look for information online.
